Bernadette Fox experiments with art and architecture. Her work has ranged from the interactive and space-altering Cloud Fountain in the center of Riverside (which was on display for 9 years), to Earth Plane, a simple intervention in Clover Park in Santa Monica, to various larger urban interventions to include most recently Break-Out, the Kings Road House Intervention presented at the 2006 Venice Biennale by Architectural Review. The model, photographs, and DVD of Break-Out are now on display at the MAK Museum of Contemporary Art in Vienna as part of the permanent collection. Bernadette has also recently won a Pollock-Krasner Award and is working on a studio-based project. 18th Street Art center is proud to announce that Artist in Residence Bernadette Fox has just been granted the CEC Artslink Project Award in conjunction with an invitation to present her work in Poland at the WYSPA Art Institute and at the same time to begin work on the initial studies for ‘Architecture of Event’ a major Intervention at the historic Gdansk shipyards, an area undergoing rapid transformation and commercial development. The Gdansk Shipyard was the base for Lech Walesa and the Solidarity movement that eventually converted Poland from Communism to Democracy.
