SKATE DECK OF THE MONTH

JAson Wheatley
Jason Wheatley, 2008

Purchase a one of a kind skate deck to benefit 18th Street Arts Center

We are pleased to present in each newsletter a one of a kind skate deck painted exclusively for 18th Street Arts Center by the featured artist. These unique artworks are being sold to support the programs at 18th Street Arts Center.

Jason Wheatley is our second artist in our Online Skate deck Store. For the next few months we will continue to feature an artist who has invested in our arts community by contributing their time and energy in creating a ONE-OF-A-KIND skate deck for us. Keep an eye out for our full on-line store coming in the next few months.

Artist Jason Wheatley lives between Los Angeles and Alaska. His painting explores the relationship between people, animals, space and inanimate objects.

18th Street receives support from the
California Community Foundation

We are pleased to announce that the California Community Foundation has awarded 18th Street with a $75,000 grant which will support our core operating expenses, capacity building and policy/advocacy activities for the next 2 years.

“During these unsettling times, we need to support nonprofit's that provide crucial services to the people who need it most,” said Antonia Hernández, president and CEO at the foundation. “We are thankful that we can continue to invest in the community at a time when demand for services is high."

The California Community Foundation is L. A.'s foundation. We've been around since 1915 and have more than $1 billion in assets. Each year we give about $125 million in grants to outstanding nonprofit's. We're known as the biggest supporter of individual artists in the region, the largest scholarship fund manager in L. A. and a national leader in increasing services for returning vets from Iraq and Afghanistan. Thousands of donors choose us because of our personal service and expertise. Artists include: Cathy Akers, Heather Cantrell, Fallen Fruit, Olga Koumoundouros, Jason Middlebrook, Bede Murphy with Unarius, Machine Project with Jim Fetterly, William Ransom, Stephanie Smith (Wanna Start A Commune?), and Joel Tauber
